The Boys II Men Mentoring Program was developed by Bishop Charles E. Brown, in 1995 to
instill wholesome of integrity, honesty, responsibility, conflict resolution, and leadership
principles into the hearts and minds of boys 12-18 years old. The goals of Boys II Men is to
transform the boys into responsible men who contribute to their community.
The surrounding communities consist mainly of low to moderate income families. A large
percentage of these families are single parent families with women as the head of the household.
Because of the lack of a father in the home and the shortage of male role models, young black
males are an at-risk group in these communities. Our young people, particularly young African
American males, are being sucked into a life of crime. The recidivism rate for Orleans Parish is
47%. The unemployment rate is increasing and the number of young people who finish high
school is decreasing. Black on Black crime is rising and instances of young people showing high
self-esteem or love for self is dropping. While there are youth programs that exist in our
community, we need more programs that emphasize the strengths of our young people and
empower them to create change.

1. To identify, recruit, and intake approximately 60 at-risk male youth.
2. To decrease the number of suspensions and expulsions related to violent events within

the participants by at least 75% by the end of the program year.

3. To provide 60 youth with Mentoring opportunities.
4. To deliver to the participants workshops, discussion, and activities that encourage high

self-esteem, good communication and decision making skills.

5. To involve participants in summer academic and cultural enrichment experiences.
6. To provide participants with field trips experiences throughout the program year. more
